Remember my last post? The Ray Family? Yeah, remember when I said that her sister referred her to me, well this is Jenn’s sister….Jessica and her fiance Jonathan.
I had been talking to Jessica for months about her beach wedding in Charleston, SC. She then messaged me about doing a mini session as an engagement, and of course, I was super pumped. I love doing any kind of session with my brides and grooms before their big day. It’s a great way to see how their chemistry works out and how well we (as photographer and client) work together, ANDDD for them to see how I work before the wedding. It honestly should be required when booking with me, hahaha.
She then suggested that we go to her grandfather’s house (I think, correct me if I’m wrong Jess! lol) with the same barns, open space, corn field, etc. It’s was really a gorgeous place to document Jonathan & Jessica’s engagement session. At first I was kind of skeptical because it’s not really my style, but once I got there and really got a feel of who they are as a couple, it fit perfectly.
Unfortunately, for me, Jonathan & Jessica made the decision to not have the beach wedding and have it close to home with all of their family after the loss of a member of Jonathan’s family. The happiness of a client matters more to me than anything, so not shooting their wedding so they can be happy, was okay with me 🙂 I wish that Jonathan & Jessica have the most beautiful wedding ever (and with Jessica planning mostly everything, OH…it will be!) and that planning your wedding for the remainder of the year will be easy as pie 🙂 They are to be married on July 27th of 2014 🙂
Onward to their engagement session! 😀
Before ever doing this engagement session, I had spotted Jess on Facebook (due to mutual friends) and had asked her if she had a wedding photographer. She messaged me and it went from there. We have talked so much since then that we have literally (I’m not kidding about this either, lol) over 700 messages back and forth to each other Facebook. We have gotten to know each other so much over the past 4-5 months and I’m so happy that I can get that close to my clients!
Jonathan & Jessica’s relationship is wonderful. You could tell the whole time we were shooting and that they were comfortable enough staring at each other for minutes on end. With some couples that’s hard to do, lol. The proposal was so sweet and just fits their personalities. I am blessed that I was chosen to capture their engagement photos and showcase their love for each other 🙂
It was really important to include fishing into this session simply because that’s how Jonathan proposed. They were fishing (of course, lol) and Jess was digging in the tackle box. She then turned around and found Jonathan down on one knee. How sweet! So as you see, it was vital to include this. It’s something that they both love doing and how they took this drastic and amazing step in their lives 🙂
I knew what I wanted out of this shot before I ever got it. Getting to the point to where Jess would be laughing enough to be closing her eyes was a toughy, but they nailed it 🙂
Probably my absolute favorite ring shot to date. And I think this really shows off the country side of this whole session. Just LOVE it.
I even had these two love birds partake in some reflector holding. The sun was being a butt that day (and I don’t mean that lightly either, lol) and we had a LOVELY shot with the creek behind them, sun glistening on the water…it was beautiful! But including them in it, was a bit more difficult, lol. Just simply had them hold my reflector and turned into some great (and properly exposed) photos.
The shots that are in this little series, are probably my favorite. They are more…romantic, than the rest of the session. This was one of those moments where they were super comfy with being that close to each other’s faces for a few minutes at a time, and not even bat an eye.
This portion was rather funny, in my opinion, lol. I really loved the way that they were looking at each other and just how the shots were turning out in general. I had them lean in closer and I blurted out, “Just go for it. Whatever happens….happens!” LOL. Ended up with a kiss, of course, haha.
Jonathan & Jessica, I do wish you both a lifetime of happiness and can’t wait to see how your wedding goes 🙂 You deserve the absolute best and I believe you have that in each other.
